Marko Da Costa ★★★★

I threw your heart into the ocean

if the tide shall return
it was meant to be

I am finally free
from your stronghold
an alluring sight to see

The Art of Feeling by Marko Da Costa is an emotional collection exploring themes of love, sorrow, peace, and acceptance. Costa accentuates the highs and lows of love, the riches of multiculturalism, and he emphasises the importance of self-acceptance and love.

Magic of threes, per usual.

1. Passionate

Costa's poetry rages with raw emotion. Each poem speaks with passion and power and does not cower from addressing the pains of sorrow and abuse. I enjoyed Costa's poetry, because each reflection of the highs and lows of love and life is constructed with emotive and thoughtful words and phrases. Costa paints his poetry with a rich use of imagery, which makes his text vibrant and entertaining to read. I enjoyed the strong expression of thoughts in each poem and Costa's uncensored reflections of life. From beginning to end, Costa's collection offers an entertaining and engaging read due to the dynamic and passionate voice.

2. Personal

Aforementioned, Costa's poetry feels uncensored and honest with his subjective reflections of sorrow and pain. From violence to heartbreak, Costa creates art that stuns the reader and offers a candid perspective of life and social phenomena. Costa's truthful and personal ideas reflect on culture and heritage, which stimulate engaging ideas and promote the significance of self-acceptance. Costa's collection expresses personal l agenda and propagations of popular cultural phenomena in an interesting and intriguing manner. Personally, I enjoyed the emerge of Costa's voice from within the text, which gave each poem a feeling of depth and humility. Additionally, despite the highly subjective reflections, Costa offers universal discussion of love and loss. These universal reflections give the collection an animated and relatable voice. Overall, I admired Costa's honesty and uncensored outlook on life.

3. Engaging

Visually, Costa's poetry is attractive and reader-friendly. From Costa's use of long and short stanzas to the peculiar format of poems to fit their themes, the collection is unique and offers an appealing layout and engaging read. Also, I found the illustrations at the beginning of each chapter beautiful and eye-catching. Costa's contemporary style allows him to break rules and offer the reader a surprise on each page. Readers familiar with the poets Rupi Kaur and Atticus will enjoy Costa's contemporary work.
