The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

Love is the strangest, most illogical thing in the world.

People who meet in airports are seventy-two percent more likely too fall for each other than people who meet anywhere else.

What a cute story by Jennifer E. Smith! The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight is a warm and inviting novel of 17-year-old Hadley who must overcome her struggles with her divorced parents and her father's new engagement and wedding. 

In tradition, here is my review in three: 

1.  Delightful 
   Delightful is definitely a word to describe this novel. Despite Hadley's struggles with herself and her parents, the novel has an optimistic atmosphere and tone, which is reflected in the warm character dynamics between Hadley and Oliver, an elderly woman on their plane, and eventually her relationship with her father and his new bride. Hadley's problems are concluded without much drama and the novel ends with forgiveness, ending family feuds, and developed maturity. Therefore, this is a great novel to relax with; however, if you're looking for exciting plot twists or passion, this novel may disappoint as the climax and plot turns of the novel are to great extent predictable. 
   
   
2. Simplistic
   As mentioned, this novel is great for relaxing and unwinding due to its simplicity and easy-to-follow plot. Unfortunately, these qualities also work to the novel's disadvantage as, at times, the story feels undeveloped and disengaging. The novel contains recycled literary stereotypes and characters, such as characterisation of the "evil stepmother", rebelling teenager, and nearly-perfect love interest. While I found the quick bloom of Hadley's and Oliver's romance fun, I could not help feel like I was reading an already-written cliché. 
   
   
3. Well-paced
   The novel introduces a well-paced plot and story. While the novel takes place in the span of 24-hours, the novel does not feel exhaustive, rushed, or slow-paced. Rather, Smith takes time to explore Hadley's and her parents' relationship by revisiting past memories while balancing these moments with Hadley's present adventure with Oliver. Smith's novel is well-written and, for the most part, I found it engaging and entertaining.
