Finding Audrey

Sophie Kinsella ★★★★

I think what I've realized is, life is all about climbing up, slipping down, and picking yourself up again. And it doesn't matter if you slip down. As long as you're kind of heading more or less upwards. That's all you can hope for. More or less upwards.

Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella features the story of Audrey, a fouteen-year-old girl, trapped inside her own mind and home. Audrey battles severe anxiety disorder, and each day feels like a challenge. Audrey meets Linus, her brother's gamer friend, and notices her life changing...

Did you like my synopsis? I really tried. Ha!

I really enjoyed this novel! Not only because of Kinsella's fun and light humour, but also because of the way she addressed mental disorders and Audrey's anxiety disorder. I found Audrey's family relatable and her characters static and believable! Despite the serious topic of Audrey's condition, this novel remained fun, pleasant, and quick read. The dialogue and events are entertaining and the character dynamics continued to crack me up. Surprisingly, Kinsella managed to write a light-hearted and humorous story about such a significant and important topic, and I think that's one of the reasons why this novel has been such a success! The novel is serious when it needs to be, bold about relevant matters, and yet light and chill, allowing the reader to relax. If you're looking for some laughter and fun, pick up this novel!
